Route NC 16 Bypass

Rt. 16Many people have been wondering when the highwayNC16 bypass that will go through parts of Denver and Cawtaba will be open to traffic. The current 4 lane section of NC 16 that runs from heart of the city (Charlotte) and turns into a 2 lane road just prior to the Lincoln County line around Killian Road. The newly planned constructed bypass will start where the current 4 lane section stops and ultimatly continue all the way to Interstate 40. Construction is well on its way and is schedulled to be completed in late 2007 or early 2008.

As many people in the Denver and Cawtaba areas have already begun to see, the real estate development that will come along with the new bypass has and will continue to grow at a rapid pace. Areas that were once thought to be a very long commute to areas of development or the city of Charlotte will now be just minutes away thanks to the new bypass.  In addition residents of Charlotte and the south end of Lake Norman will also be able to use the new bypass (north bound) to reach Interstate 40 which is the main artory that leads the Smokey Mountains. The Mountains are a popular weekend and vacation spot for residents of the area.

Many Tract Home and Custom Home communities are popping up in the Denver area and will surely continue up the north west side of the lake as the bypass construction is completed. railroadstation.jpgOn Monday June 4th the Cornelius Town Board approved plans for a new retail space to be built at the entrance area of the Caldwell Station Residential Community on Highway 115. The new retail center will have a train station-style look to it and will offer 7,500 square feet of space on 3.36 acres of land. Tenants will include restaurant(s), retail stores and offices. The new mixed space village will mainly serve the Caldwell Station and nearby Gandy Communities. Early concerns about parking and traffic signals have been worked out. Gandy Communities will be heading up the project. It will be interesting to see what the future brings for this generally undeveloped area. You can bet that more will be built around this village in years to come. We’ll just have to wait and see.
